New Member of the Tribe: Welcome Django!
“Hey Chris, can you bring this puppy back to Santo Domingo with you? This dude’s been calling me every day. He’s really in love with this dog and asks me if I can bring it to him. Would you mind…”
That’s more or less how all of this started: with me going to spend a weekend away from the city at a buddy’s place in Cabarete (North coast of the DR). He happened to have a bunch of puppies there and asked me if I could take one for him.
“Of course, no problem buddy. I’ll take him!”
I love dogs. Always wanted one. Just not now: my life is way to hectic to take on the additional responsibility of raising a small dog…the I know will grow into a BIG dog. Besides, I live in an apartment on the 4th floor. Not exactly the ideal place to house train a baby Rottweiler mix.
Anyway, following a 4 hour adventure the puppy and I arrive home. I call the guy: “I have a dog here for you, when can you come pick him up”?
“Tomorrow, first thing in the morning”
Great, so that’s settled then.
Next day: no guy. Throughout the day my house slowly starts to fill up with poop and pee. Well, not really, but still: this little creature is outta control!
By the end of the day I decide to check in again: “what’s happened!? I still have your puppy here!”
“Yes yes, I’m sorry. I’ll pass by first thing in the morning”
Next day: still no guy. I say to myself: if he’s not here by noon I’m gonna give this dog away to friends (who’d already fallen in love with him)…
OR…. I could keep him myself!
Guess what happened.
